A gala evening was organised to crown week-long activities on Friday July 5, 2024.
Indeed, a happy end as the curtains dropped on the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Cameroon Tribune. To crown week-long activities, a gala night was organised and chaired by the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Cameron News and Publishing Corporation (SOPECAM), Joseph LE, also the Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reforms.
In his toast at the Hilton Hotel, where the gala night took place on July 5, 2024, Minister Joseph LE said Cameroon Tribune was worth being celebrated as it clocks 50 years. He noted that the newspaper has provided ample information to the public on a wide range of national and international issues. “It was a beautiful ceremony. An enriching week. A wonderful celebration of the 50th anniversary of our prestigious national bilingual daily newspaper, Cameroon Tribune. It was indeed necessary for the celebration so that we can take out time from reflection to relax in this gala night. We work too much at the Cameroon News and Publishing Corporation (SOPECAM) and at Cameroon Tribune. And when a moment like this comes, we need to go out and relax and also celebrate the good work we are doing at keeping the public informed,” the Minister stated.
According to him, the one-week intensive activities of open door exhibitions, scientific symposiums and other formal gathering could only be better crowed with a relaxation evening. While wishing Cameroon Tribune better days ahead, the SOPECAM Board Chair said the importance of the press cannot be overemphasized. “Without the newspaper and other media, we cannot be informed. It is good for Cameroon Tribune to continue informing the public. That is why we are happy because our Head of State always says the press is very important and also accompanies the press. You can see that he has given technologically advanced machines too SOPECAM for the printing of the newspaper and other documents,” he stated.
For the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Cameroon, Patrick Biffot, one of the special invitees at the gala, it was with a feeling of satisfaction that he participated at the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Cameroon Tribune. “We took part at the official launch of the 50th anniversary celebration at the SOPECAM head office on July 1, 2024. We have seen the evolution of the newspaper and today I think Cameroon Tribune does not really have anything to prove because it has stood the taste of time. We wish them happy anniversary and hope the coming years of the newspaper are more performant,” the Gabonese diplomat said.
Prices were also awarded to winners of the raffle draw organised by SOPECAM on the sidelines of the celebrations. Amongst the winners was Eugène Calliope Shema of Journal du Cameroun who won a 45-inches flat screen TV. He notes that he is an ardent reader of Cameroon Tribune because it provides varied and credible information.
